Tamil film Gangers, featuring Sundar C and Vadivelu, will bypass theatrical screening and release directly on Amazon Prime Video. The announcement was made through the production team’s official social media handles, sparking widespread buzz in the Tamil film industry.
A promotional message released by the makers stated: “Beat the summer heat with the ultimate #Gangers laugh riot. All from the comfort of your own home. #GangersOnPrime — streaming tomorrow on Amazon Prime Video."
The decision to opt for a direct OTT release reflects a growing trend in the Tamil film industry where producers are leveraging digital platforms to reach audiences without box-office uncertainty. Gangers becomes the latest project to follow this route, especially appealing during the peak summer season.
The storyline revolves around Saravanan, portrayed as an undercover officer, who is on a mission to track down criminals Malayarasan and Kottaiyarasan. In the process, he discovers a massive scam and unexpectedly joins hands with a group of unconventional schoolmates, including a PT master, to bring the perpetrators to justice. The plot blends elements of law enforcement with situational comedy and chaotic confrontations.
The ensemble cast includes Sundar C, Vadivelu, Vani Bhojan, Catherine Tresa, Bagavathi Perumal, Hareesh Peradi, Mime Gopi, Munishkanth, and Aruldoss.
The screenplay is jointly crafted by Sundar C and Venkat Raghavan. Sathya composed the music, while cinematography and editing were handled by E. Krishnasamy and Praveen Antony, respectively.
Sundar C is currently engaged with two new ventures — One 2 One and Mookuthi Amman 2, a sequel to his previous success. Vadivelu has signed on for Maareesan, a road-based comedy alongside actor Fahadh Faasil.
